Fifth wheels create some of the largest and most luxurious living spaces to travel with. They’re often quite long and can be heavy and packed with comforts because of the trucks that are necessary to tow them. But if you’re looking into buying one of these, you might be wondering what you’re getting into. After all, you still want to be able to drive them on the road without getting a “Wide Load” banner!

Most standard fifth wheel trailers are between 8 and 8.5 feet wide. 8 feet is the industry standard, but some of the larger models require more space. Slide-outs, awnings, and safety equipment can extend this length, but most states have laws that forbid trailers that are more than 8.5 feet wide.

As with anything you buy in life, fifth wheels come in a variety of shapes, sizes, lengths, and widths. You can generally count on them being around 8 feet wide, but there’s a bit of variety from one model to another. Below I’ve gathered 11 examples of fifth wheels to compare their widths and other basic measurements.
