North Dakota or South Dakota, how do you decide? Picking the best RV campgrounds in South Dakota can be hard with so many wonderful options. This is a beautiful state with tons of natural beauty to enjoy! To help my RVing friends, I’ve narrowed the choices down to 11 of South Dakota’s best camping destinations.

4. Echo Valley Park, Custer

Another great option for your South Dakota RV vacation is the Echo Valley Park in Custer. This is a wonderful place because they are right next to Crazy Horse mountain. The area is sure to give you the best rustic experience in the outdoors.

It has everything for your basic needs and provides you with the opportunity to travel to all the best attractions because of its ideal location. Even your horses can camp here!

This area is right next to all the main big parks, which is perfect for biking, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, and rock climbing. There are also museums for those who love to learn the history of the area.

9. Days End Campground and RV Park, Sturgis

Another of the best RV campgrounds in South Dakota is the Days End Campground in Sturgis. This RV park offers great service, a clean campsite, and an overall peaceful vacation. It is the perfect place to stay if you’re interested in the Sturgis Motorcycle event because they provide a shuttle to all the great concerts nearby.

10. Sleepy Hollow RV Park in Wall City

Sleepy Hollow is a great place with 59 RV sites. It’s a quiet campground that’s near all the main sites like Badlands National Park and Mt. Rushmore. This is a simple site, perfect if you just want a relaxing getaway without too many distractions or extra accessories.

11. Three Flags RV Park, Black Hawk

Three Flags RV Park is located in Black Hawk, which is near Rapid City. This campsite is only open April to October but offers great services with their 41 pull-through RV sites. It’s the perfect place to stay if you are coming for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. There are different rates during the Sturgis rally so be sure to check below for those prices.

Activities in the Area

A popular event that brings in people is the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally between July and August. This is an event that any motorcycle enthusiast won’t want to miss.

While you are here, also check out the Reptile Gardens, Storybook Island, Downtown Rapid City, the Dinosaur Park, and the different museums. One of them is the Museum of Geology which features great history only 7 miles away.

Why you must plan your Sturgis RV vacation carefully

South Dakota is one of the greatest all-American road trip destinations. A Sturgis RV vacation means planning carefully to get a spot you want, when you want it. Remember, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally happens in August and most RV parks and campgrounds nearby are booked far in advance.

If you are a biker, it’s a great time to visit South Dakota. If not, you may want to visit earlier during the season.
