Staples InTents: Check Out Their Upcoming Camping Retreats
Sonya and Necota Staples are living their best life, traveling their state, region, country, world—wherever the wind blows, they are ready to be on the move. Calling Atlanta their home base, the Staples are successful bloggers and vloggers, sharing their journeys and experiences with large followers.
The couple started their glamping and camping journey back in 2016, as a way to reconnect and strengthen their relationship. As the Staples planned to begin experiencing the camping world, they were hesitant. But, as the process was repeated a few times, they began to really grow into the environment and document their own experiences. The couple discovered that being outdoors increased their communication with each other.
Staples InTents got its start as the couple taught others the tricks of the trade in the camping process. As they were sharing their stories and tips and tricks, more and more people began reaching out via various social media sites with questions on how they can start their own experiences with camping.
The couple received questions on a variety of topics and used their platform to educate as well as entertain. After a time of giving brief answers via social media, the Staples created a way to bring their online advice into real-world displays and hands-on experiences.
The Staples decided they wanted to provide that information and a safe space for campers, so they made plans to host the first in-person camping learning retreat, “The Gathering.” Designed to provide education and inspiration, the retreat is perfect for outdoor beginners, nature lovers, and/or experienced campers to join a community of like-minded individuals.
Sonya explains, “The Gathering is an opportunity for everyone to create their own outdoors experience. Whether it is to have a tranquil experience and connect with nature or to meet other like-minded people with similar interests, there is something for everyone.”
The Gathering also includes helpful workshops, from fire building to camp cooking, outdoor ethics, and overlanding (solar setup).
This year brings similar content as the previous year, along with new challenges and topics. The couple is excited to grow the outdoor community and help with efforts to create a more diverse experience.
Staples InTents states that, “Those attending The Gathering can expect to become comfortable, curious, and confident in the outdoors.” It will also allow participants to:
- Gain a great sense of community
- Learn about other methods of travel
- Select the right gear for outdoors
- Cultivate outdoor adventure skills
- Connect with folks with similar interests
- Get back to nature while still being in a safe environment
- Experience something new with the guidance of supportive experts
According to their website, “This event is the largest outdoor event specifically designed to educate Black and Brown people about camping and overlanding.”
While it was created as a way to introduce people of color to camping, and as a way to create a safe space, their camping retreat is not exclusive. Sonya shared, “Our goal is to create safe space. But in doing that, we don’t want to exclude anyone, so everyone is welcome at our camp.”
