The Wilds RV Park And Campground Is Coming Soon
New RV parks are emerging all the time, but it’s often hard for any single one to stand out. However, there’s a newcomer to the game that has the potential to rise above the competition! Construction of a new 59-acre RV park/campground has begun in The Wilds in Ohio. This park will connect visitors with the great outdoors and provide a unique camping experience.
The Wilds is a safari park and conservation center that is spread across more than 9,000 acres. It includes multiple conservation areas and is managed by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. The park was opened in 1984, and it has continued to evolve and grow over the years. It’s fully nonprofit and is now a prime destination for nature lovers and conservationists alike.

The upcoming park doesn’t currently have a name, but some details and plans for future amenities have been released.
This RV park will span across 59 acres, and it will include 46 RV sites and 27 tent sites. This may seem like a small number of sites, but the goal is to enjoy The Wilds in Ohio, not overrun them. A majority of this campground space will be devoted to the preservation of natural areas. You can experience wildlife up close and personal!
Some of the planned amenities include two shower houses, bathrooms, a playground, a camp store, a dog park, and fishing and swimming at the on-site lake. The entire campground will be surrounded by trees, and several walking and biking trails connect to it. You’ll never be far away from your next adventure when you stay here!
In addition, this park will put your right in the heart of The Wilds. You can enjoy all the sights and attractions, plus spend the night in a beautiful location. In the past, guests could stay at nearby lodges, campgrounds, cabins, or hotels, but this is the first RV park that is being set up within the preserve. It’s an exciting first step!

That’s because the location is the main appeal of this park! In 2022, The Wilds in Ohio was rated as the #2 safari park in North America. As mentioned above, it spreads across more than 9,000 acres and is home to several rare and endangered species. It was once used as a coal mine but has been reclaimed for environmental purposes. Conservation and preservation are the major focuses of this area, but there’s also a thriving ecotourism side of things.

The future of this campground and The Wilds
The campground is estimated to open sometime in 2023 or 2024. More details will be released as the opening draws nearer, but the park won’t take long to set up because there aren’t a lot of sites to construct.
The Wilds is open from May to October, so it’s likely that the RV park will be seasonal as well. Again, more concrete details will be released later on. With the addition of this park, The Wilds anticipates they will service 18,00 people per year, which will improve the area’s tourism industry.
The addition of an RV park and campground will also make this park more accessible to guests. Developers have stated that “The campground is the first step in a masterplan to create an “ecotourism corridor,” connecting places like The Wilds with Salt Fork State Park, the Appalachian Wildlife Area, Burr Oak State Park, parts of the Buckeye Trail, and more.” (source).
With any luck, this means that there will be a chain of new RV parks and campgrounds in the future. Their construction may be dependent on the success of this first park, but it seems likely that it will do well.
