Get A Sneak Peek At Storyteller Overland’s New Camper Van

Storyteller Overland is known for its adventure vans based on the Mercedes Sprinter–the Classic MODE, the Stealth MODE, and the Beast MODE. But the Alabama-based manufacturer recently revealed its newest addition to the 4X4 lineup. Introducing the MODE LT, a camper van built on a Ford Transit AWD chassis.

The July 4th online announcement revealed quite a bit about the 2022 MODE LT, including general specs, cost, and estimated shipment date. However, the company has been hush-hush about posting interior photos or divulging more than they have to about the new camper van’s particulars.

All in good time. Storyteller Overland plans to make the big reveal for the 2022 MODE LT (and 2022 Mercedes Sprinter 4 X 4 MODEs) at the Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona, on September 24, 2021. So stay tuned for the big reveal. For now, you can get a sneak peek of the MODE LT in the promo video below.

What is available on the MODE LT via Storyteller Overland’s website is enough to show that the new addition will be packed with many of the brand’s designs, tech, and functionality seen in its Mercedes Sprinter versions.

General specs

Unlike the other MODEs, the new MODE LT has a gas engine, not a diesel. The MODE LT is built on a Ford Transit van featuring a 3.5L EcoBoost w/10-speed Transmission, all-wheel drive, and 148-inch wheelbase.

Storyteller Overland admits, “While Ford never designed the AWD Transit to serve as your vehicle of choice for rock crawling or hyper-aggressive offroading, the fact is that it is still a truly capable and agile travel companion that will get you all the way from your urban adventures to your next trailhead jam sessions in safety, comfort, and style without compromise.”

Exterior features

The MODE LT measures just under 20 feet from end to end. Like its predecessors, Storyteller Overland’s retro exterior remains with the new model. Also included are outside features like a rugged roof rack with a sonic wedge wind deflector, tubular side mount ladder, and running boards.

The M-PowerTM 12kWh Energy Storage System is powered by Volta. It consists of a 3200-watt inverter, high output auxiliary alternator, 30-amp power cord, and two 45-watt solar panels that extend to 600-watts.

The MODE LT comes with a 21-gallon freshwater tank, a 24-gallon gray water tank, and a 4.75-gallon cassette toilet.

The interior of a Storyteller Overland camper van features a galley, a Dreamweaver bed with a convertible work surface, and a Groovelounge two-seat convertible sofa bed, among other features.
There are currently no interior photos available online of the Mode LT, however all Storyteller Overland Modes share similar interior features. This is the interior of the Stealth Mode camper van. Photo courtesy of Storyteller Overland.

Interior

While the interior look and layout of the MODE LT have yet to be revealed, the manufacturer’s website assures that it sleeps up to three and is outfitted with a Dreamweaver bed with a convertible work surface, swiveling front seats, and a Groovelounge two-seat convertible sofa bed.

The galley includes a stainless steel sink with a folding faucet, dual voltage refrigerator/freezer, microwave, induction cooktop, and an exterior fold-down table. In addition, campers can opt to shower inside using the patented Halo Shower™ System or utilize the outside shower.

Additional features of the camper van

The MODE LT comes complete with sheep’s wool insulation, an air conditioner, a ceiling exhaust fan, gasoline-fired heating system, LED lights throughout the interior, bug screens, magnetic privacy shades, a large cargo area, and a number of outlets (110V, USB, 12V).

How much does the MODE LT cost, and where can I buy one?

The MODE LT is the most affordable of Storyteller Overland’s lineup, priced at $153,748. Interested parties are encouraged to contact their preferred Storyteller Overland dealer to reserve a MODE LT. However, be aware that production is limited, and each dealer has a limited allocation. MODE LTs will begin shipping out in late 2021/early 2022.
