REOLINK are excellent cameras. Love the price and how compatible they’re with everything differently on the request. They also work great with non-Reolink products. PRO tip gets the one with the LIGHT. It also doubles as a stir-sensitive light that turns on when you walk or to scarify anyone who gets too close.
I use wyze, it’s way cheaper then simply safe. In my opinion, I like it better.
You need AC power for Simply Safe.
A combination of things make a good security system. A good dog, will warn you and in most cases put a question in the criminal’s mind as it is better to move on. Second is a good monitoring system that doubles as a pet protection system due to heat/cold/power failure to notify you, last and yes most important is personal protection, firearm (ONLY if your are trained and have regular range practice) of your choice. Traveling, as a Former Military Combat Soldier and Retired Police Officer, I carry my .40 Caliber Handgun. I also have a gun safe for traveling, in the event I need to secure the weapon, I can. Those are my thoughts and practice. You do what is best for you, but take proactive action to implement some security for you and your loved ones while RVING. 🇺🇸
I have guns, now, bear spray, hornet spray, tazers, motion sensors, trail cameras, oh! Did I mention I collect grizzly traps.
If I did ever set one or the 11 of them! I put a sign out ” caution Grizzly Traps” please don’t try to find them. ” I’ll have to saw your leg off” I get a lot of questions. But in reality. If I have to defend myself, my lady friend, we are elderly . I’m extremely capable. So far great camping experiences. If you feel something isn’t right. It isn’t, move on.
I do not have a security system, but have though about installing something, nor a dog, nor a weapon. A dog that would be aggressive enough to at least lunge at an intruder would be effective. An alarm system that could detect a lurking presence outside would be useful (wishful thinking I think). A combination of these “alarm systems” would hopefully give me enough time to wake up enough to to make an intelligent decision to “deploy” a weapon. Decisions, like where is my wife, or if camping with family, where are they…

You never mentioned that when boondocking and there is no cell service, you arrive back at your truck camper and someone swiped your unit. This system works on engines. It’s a total engine immobilizer. Revelco system. Mine cost about $800 for my truck. https://www.ravelco.com. It’s worth the money.

We have one on our F250 7.3l Lariat Sport Tremor. It’s added security and peace of mind knowing it not going to start if a thief try’s to take it.
How about a simple motion wifi camera like Wyze? Sends motion alerts, facial recognition, sends alerts, no monthly cost for a basic plan. New cameras have a built in battery that only need to be recharged every 90-days or so. Two cameras cost under $100 and can be mounted outdoor and have great night vision.

When camping, I set up a trail camera to watch the entry side of our camper. That way in case someone breaks in while we are away from the campsite, we can at least have something to turn over to the police. As far as security while we are at the campsite, an AR-15 pistol in 300Blackout inside near the bed and a compact 9mm CCW pistol on my hip have been more than enough for us.
I recommend a dog.
I find the cameras useless, So what are you going to do with a video camera when someone is lurking outside with I’ll intentions or attempting to enter. They no doubt know your inside if your vehicle is settle next to your rig. Maybe a loud alarm might scare them off if your in a campground but if your boondocking it, I prefer to have my Mossburg 500 12 gauge pump (marine edition) close at hand. I’m betting that the sound of you racking the slide on that will put any attempt at entry out of their minds.
And if not, well 🤷 even Joe Biden says to arm yourself with one.
Great article, after reviewing all 3 of the systems you recommended, I purchased the Wsdcam Door and Window Security Alarms with 3 additional sensors. We boondock in the desert, which means there are times when the trailer is left unattended when we are off prospecting. The ease of installation will allow us to place sensor on the door, access doors for front storage and door for outdoor kitchen without breaking the bank.
I had the SimpliSafe system in my Class A and replaced it with the Wyze system. I’m much happier with the Wyze system. I added a camera that detects motion as well as sound and notifies me immediately. The monthly monitoring is much cheaper than Simplisafe. I have window/door sensors, motion detector, temperature/humidity sensor, and keypad. Everything works off the app on my iPhone. The alarm also has battery backup.
Why did you replace the simplisafe security? What did Wyze do better?? Was it easy to install? I have a 20′ van. All the replies about owning a gun make me wonder how safe or unsafe it is out there.
