Outdoor Exercises For Traveling in an RV:

Unless you have a rare RV, it is likely that your RV is not the best place to work out in. For this purpose, most of these exercises take place outdoors.

It is likely that the surrounding area of wherever your RV is parked is the perfect location to get a good workout in.

Besides, with a tight area, it is likely that it will get very steamy inside the RV while working out. That is not the smell that you want while you are traveling around.

You may already have an exercise routine in place with no equipment. If so, simply go outside an do that routine. However, if you need some inspiration on what you can do outside of your RV to workout, I have ideas for you.

1. Attend Classes Before you Travel in an RV and Memorize the Routine.

For me, I have found that this is the best option for you to workout with. The more you know before you head out on your RV trip, the easier it will be to work out.

There are multiple workout classes that can you can attend at fitness centers all around the world. Once you have gone to classes enough, you will know what move is next before the instructor does it.

You will be your own instructor, in this case, so make sure you are confident in the routine.

Note: you do not have to have the routine memorized perfectly. Even by repeating just a few moves, you will get a workout.

Make sure you choose a class that you will love though. If you are not interested in yoga from the beginning, then don’t attend yoga classes. Do something you love, and you’ll have no trouble waking up every morning to workout.

2. Take a Hike or Run

It is almost guaranteed that there is a spot outside of your RV that you can go hiking or running.

If you are camping, there is likely some of the most beautiful trails around you. And, if you are simply traveling there will still be at least a road to go running on.

Personally, I used to hate running. However, running is one of the very best exercises you can do. It engages all of your body and builds muscle.

Running will put you directly in nature and help you to enjoy your surroundings. By running, you will be able to experience great views.

However, if running is too much, then hiking is a great workout. If you find steep terrain, then you will be doing leg day to the max.

Taking a hike will take longer, but it will help you to see nature as well.

3. Bring some Speakers and Dance Around (Zumba)

If you have ever attended a Zumba class, then you know that this is a great way to get a workout.

However, you do not need a Zumba instructor to give you this experience. Although these instructors are motivating and help you learn, you can easily do this yourself.

Make sure the music is faster and has a good beat. You could even make a Zumba playlist. And, with this, you can guarantee that you enjoy all of the music.

Some tips for dancing along to the music is to involve your whole body. Rather than simply moving your hips, get your arms involved too.

Also, jumping is better than stepping. Do any regular dance move just to the extreme. And, DON’T STOP. Just keep on moving to the beat and you’ll break a sweat.

Note: You can do this with the whole family. Although you may be working harder to get your workout in, you can make a fun experience for the whole family.

4. Subscribe to a Workout Plan

There are many subscription options out there that will allow you to follow along with an instructor from wherever you are.

This can be done inside or outside. My personal preference to not create a stinky RV is doing it outside. You simply take your laptop outside with the program.

My personal favorite is Beach Body. They will give you workouts based on what you need. Whether you want to lose weight, build muscle, or simply learn more about exercising, Beach body can help.

Having this subscription is good for being in an RV or not. It helps you live a healthier life. There are also other things the system helps with, like nutrition.

“I bought a lot of exercise videos from Beachbody. So far, I’m very satisfied with the results. I work out six days a week and eat healthily. Beachbody has given me more of an education about nutrition and I’ve never had that growing up.”

5. Bring a Bike

Although some people may not want to go through the hassle of bringing along a bike, a bike is a great way to get your exercise in.

If you bring along a bike, you will have all the equipment you need available for a workout.

From personal experience, I can say that it is easier to be motivated when you’ve already gone through the hassle of bringing a bike. I bike often to make it worth it.

A bonus of having a bike is that it is also a great mode of transportation. With a bike, you can easily ride into the town or city where you are. Not only do drive by places, but with a bike, you can explore them more while getting a workout.

6. Time Yourself

Most people have a large number of workout ideas in their head. If not from high school gym class, you have likely seen many being done, even on your TV.

Some of the commonly done moves are pushups, jumping jacks, squats, lunges, sit-ups, burpees, etc. There are so many exercises out there.

And, this is a great way to give yourself a variety. You can do multiple exercises in one day, rather than just one.

With timing yourself, you simply have to bring out a phone with a timer on it or a timer. You can choose the times you want to do, but set the timer for that time and do one move.

Then, switch to a different exercise resetting the timer. I will give an example of how this would look below.

TimeExercise
30 sec.Push-ups
2 minJumping Jacks
1 minSitups
1 minLunges
2 minSquats
30 sec.Bur-pees

This simple routine could be repeated for a very thorough workout, touching on multiple parts of the body.

You can obviously vary this idea in many ways to suit your workout.

7. Watch Videos

This idea is similar to Beach body. However, instead of having a plan made for you, you will have to work to find the right timing of the right type of video.

Yet, there are some videos on YouTube led by instructors that will give you a great workout. There is a variety of videos to follow along.

Depending on what type of workout you would like, you would need to specify that. If you want to go hard, make sure the workout is high intensity.

You also have the option of purchasing some videos. Many laptops have a DVD player in which you will be able to watch workout DVDs.

There are some great workout DVDs that you could purchase for all types of workouts.

8. Yoga

This workout is my personal, biased favorite. All you have to do is bring a yoga mat with you.

Now, despite what many people think, yoga is not a very simple thing. It will make you break a sweat. There are options of yoga focused on muscle or flexibility.

Personally, I have yoga routines and moves memorized to the point where I can simply lead myself in a workout.

However, for those of you who may be beginning, there are yoga DVDs, YouTube videos, and classes available for you to follow along.

If there was one important tip I could give you for choosing which workout you do, it would be to know and love your workout.

The best way to motivate yourself to workout is to be doing a workout that you enjoy. For me, I could not run every day. But, I could do yoga multiple times a day.

Figure out an exercise that you love and could easily do everyday.

Indoor Exercises For Traveling in an RV:

As I have mentioned, indoor exercises are not the ideal while you are in an RV.

However, there are certain circumstances in which you will have to be indoors. For instance, if the ground is covered in snow, or the vehicle is moving.

But, do not worry. There are still some great options for exercising inside the RV.

1. Use an Exercise Ball

There are exercise balls which you can buy that will easily inflate and deflate. This is perfect to have help with workout without being a bother while you aren’t working out.

However, if the exercise ball does not bother you, it would be easier to simply keep the ball inflated and tucked away in some corner.

There are many workouts that you can do with an exercise ball. Some workout included leg strengthening, ab strengthening, arm strengthening, and more.

A bonus of having an exercise ball in the RV is it gives another fun seat. Especially if you are short on seats, this exercise ball will be great for you.

2. Use a Jump rope

Jumping rope is a simple exercise. Most of us learned how to jump rope at a very young age. However, for a long period of time, this is a great workout.

For those who haven’t touched a jump rope for a long time, the jump rope will prove itself as a great exercising tool.

The jump rope will not take up too much space in your RV and does not require a large area to use.

To use a jump rope, it is best to vary the way you are using it. You can switch the way you are swinging it to entertain you more.

And, as always, listen to some great pump up music while you are jumping rope. This will keep you entertained for a good workout.

3. Weights

Weights are commonly known for building muscle and being used for lifting.

However, weights can be used in many ways. For instance, with a dumbbell, you could do some ab workouts.

Simply sit on the floor and bring your legs into the air in bicycle position. Then, move the dumbbell to one side of your body. By switching between sides, you will tighten your core.

Weights can be used to elevate any regular workout. With weights in hand, you will work your arm muscles along with the other muscles designated to be worked from the exercise.

4. Get Creative

If you are going to be working out inside an RV, you will need to get creative to make your own workouts for the space given.

Some things that you could use for your workout are the wall, the counter, any seats available, or your bed.

Creative exercise while sitting in passenger seat.

And, if you are interested in building muscles, you will find that there are many things available for you to lift. Just because it is not a typical weight, does not mean it won’t build muscle.

When you’re working out in an RV, use your imagination. There are plenty of things you could do to give you a good exercise with materials already in your RV.

Whatever it is that you choose to do, I hope that you will enjoy the workout. To exercise daily will be far more simple when you are having a good time.

If possible, involve others in your workouts. They will help to motivate you as you get a good workout in.

I hope you enjoy your travels, while staying healthy. Good luck!
