My Top Picks

2014 Leisure Travel UNITY U24TB – $93,000

If you are looking for the ULTIMATE Class B RV to take exploring in this coming winter, then the 2014 Leisure Travel UNITY U24TB is a perfect choice!

Hoping to tow something behind your RV such as a snowmobile or any other winter gear? While the Leisure Travel UNITY has got you covered. This Class B RV is capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds!

In order to make your travels more convenient, this Class B RV comes equipped with its own diesel generator and exterior shower (although this feature may not be beneficial until the summer months)!

While traveling on bumpy or icy roads, know that your RV is going to stay on the road since the Leisure Travel UNITY has 4 back wheels!

When you drive down the road, take in every single bit of the landscape with none of an overhang in the way. This RV does not have an overhang like is common in these models so that you can enjoy all of the views!

One struggle with Class B RVs is trying to find the storage space to bring everything along. However, with the 2014 Leisure Travel UNITY, there is exterior storage in every possible nook and cranny. So feel free to pack some extra coats or skis for your next winter adventure.

When you get on the inside of the Leisure Travel UNITY, the storage continues to be a major feature.

There are above head cupboards that run across the entire RV from the front all the way to the back. Still not sure you have found enough room to pack everything? Have no fear! There are drawers and hidden storage compartments in every room of the Leisure Travel UNITY.

Now let’s move on to everything found inside the kitchen the Leisure Travel UNITY!

The first thing you notice in the kitchen is the deep stainless steel sink complete with a counter cover. On the back of the counter cover, you will find a cutting board so there is one less thing you need to pack for your next trip!

The kitchen also features a 2 burner stove, a small trash disposal area, drawer space, a large fridge, a convection microwave, and a pull out pantry!

Once you make a meal in the kitchen, you are going to need somewhere to comfortably eat it. Well, in the Leisure Travel UNITY dining area you have room for 4 to 6 people to enjoy a meal together.

To make things better, when you are done eating, the dining table folds down into a single bed!

Another difference you will find in this RV is that there is not a wet bath. Instead, there is a large, separate bathroom and shower area in the Leisure Travel UNITY!

Possibly my favorite thing about the Leisure Travel UNITY is the back bedroom!

In the back bedroom, there are two separate twin beds! The Leisure Travel UNITY is perfect for two friends looking to set out on an adventure and have the room needed to do so.

However, if you are hoping to snuggle up next to your husband or wife while traveling during the cold winter months, the Leisure Travel UNITY U24TB has a special surprise for you.

Simply pull out the extension and insert the inflatable mattresses and suddenly you have one king size bed in the back room!

To further make the Leisure Travel UNITY the perfect winter Class B RV choice, you will find that the RV is fully insulated in order to keep you feeling comfortable no matter what time of year you travel

2020 Fleetwood IROK FSL – $104,995

While the Fleetwood IROK FSL comes with several attachments that work best for summer camping (like an awning) the floor plan works to meet all the demands of traveling year round.

If you have ever been winter camping, you understand that storage is an absolute necessity.

When the temperature drops, you need to have those extra warm coats and boots on hand. However, in many Class B RVs finding room to put all those extra coats, boots, and blankets can prove to be quite difficult.

With the Fleetwood Irok FSL, there is above head storage, drawers, and even a wardrobe to hang all of your coats inside of!

When you take this Class B RV out camping you can eliminate “the chair” where stack all of those extra clothes, and take the space inside the RV back!

However, in order to make room for the larger wardrobe storage area, the Fleetwood Irok FSL comes with a much smaller refrigerator than preferred.

Once you are inside of this RV you will see elegant design throughout each bit of the interior. To make the interior the perfect match for you and your family, you are able to customize the different features!

Another benefit of the Fleetwood Irok FSL is the solar panel system!

If you are dry camping then having an extra boost of power on those sunny days makes your trip that much more enjoyable. Just make sure you brush any newly fallen snow off in the mornings!

Before you decide whether or not this is the perfect Class B RV for your winter travels, visit a local dealer and take a walk through the model. It is especially important in this model because of the lower ceilings and the smaller aisle space.

2002 Chinook DESTINY 2400 – $30,000

We all know the common saying of “age before beauty.” Well, with the Chinook DESTINY 2400 we can see functionality before age!

This Class B RV is perfect for a family that is a little bigger since there are more seatbelts and sleeping areas located inside of the Chinook DESTINY 2400 model.

In the Chinook DESTINY, you will find room enough for 4 people to sleep and enough seatbelts to transport up to 7 people!

The Chinook DESTINY 2400 looks a little different than most of the Class B RVs that we will find on the market today. What makes it different? Well, in my opinion, the Chinook looks more like a Class C on the inside rather than a Class B RV. This is because of the larger front lounge and the double dinette.

In a newer model, you are not going to be able to find a front lounge with a large dining area. In fact, newer models sacrifice the dining area for a slightly larger bathroom or kitchen area.

With the wonderful layout of the Chinook DESTINY 2400, all of the family is able to enjoy a meal together around the table!

In the kitchen of the Chinook DESTINY, you will find a double basin sink, a 3 burner gas stove, and a refrigerator big enough to feed the entire family! While counter space may feel a little limited in this model, the larger dining area gives you some more surface to prepare your meals on.

The final aspect that makes the Chinook DESTINY 2400 perfect for winter traveling, is the heated tanks! Don’t let a frozen pipe stop you and your family from adventuring further than you ever have before!

If the 2002 Chinook DESTINY 2400 has all of these wonderful features, I would love to see how the newer models of this Class B RV are designed!

Since this Class B RV model is a little older, you are able to get all of these wonderful features for a much more affordable price than any of the newer RV models.

2018 Winnebago Revel 4×4 44E – $167,913

The Winnebago Revel 44E is a Class B RV guaranteed to help you explore new, exciting places no matter what the season!

The Winnebago Revel is built on a 4×4 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis with a 4 Wheel Drive system so that you can know your RV is going to get you to your next destination safely.

One of the main issues addressed when looking for an RV to travel within the winter is the water tanks and everything that accompanies them.

When the temperature drops, pipes can freeze and in extreme cases, tanks may burst.

The Winnebago Revel 4 Season not only is equipped with 4 Wheel Drive but has completely heated pipes and water tanks as well!

Having both heated pipes, tanks, and 4 Wheel Drive is not common for most Class B RVs. This means that when you drive the Winnebago Revel 4×4, you can know it is a one of a kind (or rather one of a few) machines.

The next feature on this Class B RV is the not so common plumbing system. The Winnebago Revel 44E is built with a cassette toilet and no black tank!

For those who are new to the different types of RV toilets, a cassette toilet looks like any other toilet but is equipped with a portable black tank (meaning that the tank disconnects from the RV and you are able to dump the tank separate from the RV).

For many Class B RVs, you will find a smaller wet bath (shower and toilet combined) and separate from storage spaces. However, while you are traveling, the Winnebago Revel allows you to add shelves to your wet bath and convert it into a large closet space!

While this adds space for while driving, if you need to use the shower or the bathroom, you then need to find space for everything stored inside.

Possibly my favorite part of the Winnebago Revel 44E is the “garage.” In the back area, you will find a power lift bed so that while you are traveling, you can store any winter exploration gear you may need!

Whether you are bringing skis, snowboards, or anything else you might use on your next winter adventure, there is room for it all in the Winnebago Revel’s garage area!

To seal the deal on this Class B RV, you are going to find plenty of above head storage for all of those extra items needed for traveling in the winter!

2019 Airstream Tommy Bahama Interstate 19 – $166,343

I may be crazy to suggest that an RV designed for specifically for the summer months is one of the best winter traveling RVs, but I promise you will be pleasantly surprised when you start to explore any new tundra in an Airstream Tommy Bahama Interstate 19!

This Class B RV works best for two or three people who are looking for a fun, exciting, and cozy winter adventure.

One of the perks of driving any RV designed by Airstream is 4 Wheel Drive optional addition.

Having 4 Wheel Drive in your Class B RV may prove to be a crucial feature when traveling in those cold, icy months.

When you enter the Tommy Bahama, no matter what the temperature is outside, you will always be able to feel like you are staying in an island resort!

Curl up in a blanket on the comfy couch in the back with a hot chocolate and watch a movie together (this is one of my favorite winter activities).

While this Class B RV may have originally been designed for exciting days at the beach, it is perfect for days spent at the slopes or in the snow as well!

Another important feature in this the RV is the overhead storage space and cupboards. While there may not be as much storage space in the Airstream Tommy Bahama Interstate 19 compared to other Class B RVs, there is just enough that you should be able to travel in both comfort and style!

Whether at the first or the last stop on your winter excursion, when you drive an RV with Airstream’s amazing quality, it is sure to be a memory made to last!

2019 Winnebago Travato 59G – $93,450

Now for my final (and favorite!) Class B RV for any winter adventure.

The Winnebago Travato 59G not only one of the most well-equipped RVs for winter traveling but also one of the most affordable!

Now you may be wondering what makes this RV so wonderful for winter camping. Well, I am going to tell you about everything the Winnebago Travato 59G has to offer to you while you travel this winter!

First of all, the Winnebago Travato 59G has plenty of sleeping space! The Winnebago Travato 59G is perfect for a small family of 3.

In most Class B RVs you find room enough for only 2 adults. However, with the Flex Bed System, you can sleep all 3 of you!

Second, the Winnebago Travato 59G has a wet bath that is a little bigger than most other Class B RVs. This larger wet bath makes for what we can call a more “luxurious” winter traveling experience.

If you are one who loves to cook, but can never find enough room in the mini-fridges to bring everything you need for your famous homemade Chicken Alfredo, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the Winnebago Travato’s kitchen.

Pack as much, or as little, food with you on your next winter excursion and leave the extra cooler at home!

The refrigerator and freezer are not the typical mini-fridge found in other Class B RVs but is instead a full-size RV fridge (note: this is not a residential fridge but rather a fridge found in a travel trailer or fifth-wheel).

Now, let’s discuss my absolute favorite feature in the Winnebago Travato 59G.

As I mentioned before, one of the most important problems to address while winter camping is the pipes and tanks. Well, in order to protect your RV, Winnebago includes tank heaters!

With tank heaters, you never need to fear that your tanks are going to freeze no matter how cold the temperature drops too!

The only downside to using the tank heaters is the number of AMPs required to do so.

In order to run the tank heaters, you will need at least 12 AMPs of electricity. This means that dry camping without a generator will not be as feasible during the colder temperatures.

However, if you are staying at an RV park with hook-ups, then you are sure to get the most out of your winter travels in the Winnebago Travato 59G!

What to Look for in a Winter RV

If you are looking for a Class B RV with specific needs not found in the ones I picked above, there are few things to know before buying one on your own. There are several qualities and features that you will find to be crucial to look for when choosing an RV for your winter travels.

I already discussed in an earlier section how storage is a large portion of what makes an RV perfect for your winter travels. Some other extremely important features to look for are RVs with more insulating and 4 Wheel Drive capability.

Why are these features important? Well, since winter traveling often leads to icy roads and temperatures that can drop to below freezing, it is absolutely necessary that the Class B RV you choose to take traveling to be well insulated to keep you warm and that it has 4 wheel drive capability so that you can arrive safely.

Many RV manufacturers offer what is called an “Arctic Package.” This package is meant to ensure that your RV is going to meet all of your winter traveling needs.

RV “Arctic” Package

Understanding what an Arctic Package is and what it has to offer you and your winter adventures, is possibly one of the most important things to know before you purchase your winter traveling RV.

Before you purchase any RV that you plan on traveling in the winter with, be sure to ask the dealer if the model you want has an Arctic Package available. If you are shopping online for your Class B RV, I suggest going to the manufacturer’s website to learn more about the specifics of their Arctic Packages.

What is an Arctic Package?

Simply stated, and Arctic Package is a series of “improvements” or upgrades that will make winter camping in your RV more enjoyable.

These upgrades tend to be fairly simple additions but are necessary for you to be safe, warm, and happy while you travel in your Class B RV this winter!

What all comes with the Arctic Package?

Well, while the contents of every Arctic Package will vary depending on the model and manufacturer of the RV, there are a few upgrades commonly seen in Arctic Packages.

A few common upgrades in Arctic Packages are:

  • Double-paned windows
  • Additional insulation
  • Heated Tanks
  • Enclosed underbellies
  • Heated storage areas

With an Arctic Package added to your Class B RV, you can know that your RV is well insulated and that you will be returning to a comfy AND warm bed that night.

Another bonus to adding an Arctic Package to your Class B RV is that you have less reason to worry about any of your tanks, pipes, or anything else freezing and making your camping trip hectic rather than heavenly.

Winter Camping Tips for Your Class B RV

If you are looking for a few more tips to warm your RV, or if you have simply never traveled in an RV during the winter, I have a few tips and tricks that will make your next winter excursion perfect!

Space Heaters

If you did not spring for the Arctic Package in your RV then there are few things you can do to keep both you and your pipes warm.

The strategically placing space heaters in your RV near where the tanks are located may be enough to keep them from freezing over. Using a space heater to do this has twice the benefits since when you do this, the heat works not only to keep your tanks and pipes from freezing over, but it helps you from freezing over too!

However, using one (or two) space heaters will require a little more power than you are able to provide while dry camping. Meaning this tip is only really beneficial if you are parked where you are able to hook up to a power source.

RV Skirts

No, an RV skirt is not something to help make your Class B RV look more high class! Although if that happens in the process, who is complaining?

An RV Skirt is a long piece of fabric meant to help insulate the bottom or underbelly of your RV.

With a company like EZ Snap, adding an RV skirt to your rig can be quick and easy! Check out the EZ Snap website to get your RV skirt before you leave on your next winter adventure!

Command Strips

As I mentioned several times above, finding room in a Class B RV for all of your extra blankets, coats, shoes, and warm clothes can be quite difficult.

In order to find more room for coats in your RV, hang a few command strips by the front door!

Save every last bit of storage for the important things rather than wasting all of your limited storage space with your bulky winter jackets.

Use a Dehumidifier

Winter camping often leads to water and snow being tracked inside your RV.

The more water and moisture brought inside, the more humid and uncomfortable your RV’s interior will be.

To save space in your RV, try using this Electric Mini Dehumidifier ($49.99)! This is small enough to fit in the limited amount of space but big enough to get the job done! Not to mention that the Electric Mini Dehumidifier is battery powered so you don’t have to waste any of your precious power!
