What’s It Like To Work For Amazon CamperForce?

Work camping is a great way to earn money on the road. Work camping through Amazon CamperForce is one of many great options to make money for your RV lifestyle. If you have ever thought about becoming a seasonal worker for Amazon, here are some great tips and tricks to get through the process and start earning money.

What time of year should you work for Amazon CamperForce?

There are a few things you should know before you get started. Most work campers work in one of the company’s fulfillment centers. Peak season, which includes the holidays, typically runs from September to Christmas. There is also a post-holiday season from after Christmas until March.

As a work camper, you will be paid an hourly rate—up to $19.55 depending on location. You also receive overtime, get a stipend for your RV parking space ($120 per week according to the website), and are eligible for an end-of-the-season bonus, which is 50 cents for each regular hour of work and $1 for each overtime hour worked, paid after the assignment ends.

Work camping jobs at Amazon

There are a variety of jobs you can do including:

  • Picker – Picks items from the shelves and puts them in bins to be shipped
  • Packer – Packs items that have been picked
  • Stower – Puts new inventory into the warehouse to be picked
  • Receiving – Unloads and receives goods into the warehouse
  • Inventory Control and Quality Assurance

A typical work week

Most Amazon work campers work full time, although you can apply for a part-time position if available. Whether you work a day or night shift depends on demand, and you may not have a lot of choices when you begin working there. Of course, you can request a certain shift, but unless you have extenuating circumstances, you might not get the shift you want. Returning workers usually have the priority to take better shifts.

Full-time workers during the peak season are required to work overtime at 50 hours per week, and you do have the option of working 60 hour weeks. Park-time workers can work 30 hours per week.

You will get a lot of walking in these jobs; you will be on your feet and walking for your entire shift. You will be sore and possibly have blisters by the end of your 10-12 hour day. The tasks are fairly simple but repetitive. Socializing is not encouraged, so be prepared to dig in and get the job done. You will also have a quota to meet on a daily basis.

Also note, you won’t know what job you will have or your schedule until you arrive. I’ve also heard that once you apply, it may take some time before you hear back. Others have said they heard back right away. Don’t be discouraged if it takes some time.

How to apply for a work camping position

First, go to their website and check out what positions might be available. Amazon has fulfillment centers in many cities across the country, but they do not all have the CamperForce program.

Once you decide that work camping at an Amazon fulfillment center might be for you, go to Amazon Jobs Hiring Now to create your account and verify your email address. Once you’ve done that, you can click the apply button, answer some screening questions, and then start the application. It’s a pretty standard application. You will also watch an intro video and perform several tasks online that will help Amazon to assess your skills.

You will also provide information for a background check and possibly participate in a virtual interview. A drug test will be required closer to your start date.

Work camping through the Amazon CamperForce is a great way to make money during your RV travels. Just be aware that because of the physical aspect of the job, it might not be suitable for everyone.

  1. I didn’t plan to live a nomadic life so I bought a 2015 commercial vehicle new after two car accidents (not my fault). It is paid for and I invested $4k in maintenance. I started a business in 2008 while living in a Kia Rio that was rear-ended in 2016. Now i am traversing the warehouse set of employment in great health and attitude. But no RV?
