1. Jumbo Rocks in Joshua Tree

To start off the list, I’ve chosen the Jumbo Rocks campsite that is right in the actual Joshua Tree Park. If you are looking to stay right inside the campground, this is a great RV option for you. There are other campsites within the park, but this one seems to have the most campsites with 124, making it more accessible.

To stay in Joshua Tree, you will need to make a reservation, unlike some other campsites that are just first-come, first-served.

Amenities

This location does not offer any special amenities, or hardly any at all. It is truly rustic camping in the national park. This makes for an unforgettable real camping experience away from the world and in the heart of nature.

Before you decide to camp here, you should know that there is no cell phone reception, internet, general store, water, dump station or laundry facilities. No showers either. There are, however, toilets and places to build campfires.

If you are looking for the genuine camping experience, Jumbo Rocks is the place for you. It may not offer spectacular amenities, but it offers something more; a break from the real world and a relaxing experience in nature.

Activities in the Area

Since this area is in the park, there are a lot of nearby activities and attractions. In the park people love to rock climb, rappel, hike, explore, or just lounge in hammocks.

Price

It is $15 a night including 5 people and two cars. However, some campsites do not have enough space for more than one car. To check the specifics of what must be done to camp here, check out their website: https://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/jumbo-rocks-campground.htm

2. Joshua Tree Lake RV and Campground

Here is an option that is right next to Joshua Tree Lake but is not run by the park itself. This enables it to have more amenities than a campsite inside the park.

This is a great location if you are looking for a fun location too. This site hosts music festivals, events, weddings, and more. Plus, these attractions all take place while being located right next to a national park with beautiful views.

Amenities

  • Dump Station
  • Power and Water
  • Bathroom and Shower Services
  • Children’s Playground
  • Fishing Permitted at the Lake

If you are looking for a campsite that offers power, water, and even WiFi, this is a campsite you will want to consider. It provides the basics for RV camping, which can create a comfortable experience for anyone visiting the Joshua Tree Park area.

Activities in the Area

Music Festivals! One of the most unforgettable experiences you could have here is attending one of the amazing music festivals put on by this RV park.

Besides camping near an amazing national park made perfect for outdoor activities, this RV campsite hosts music festivals and activities sure to provide for even more entertainment. These festivals provide more entertainment than just music too. They provide several activities for everyone, even children.

There are activities all day for the kids in the Kidsville section of the festival for younger ones. This includes dancing and crafts for the kids– not to mention that it’s free for ages 10 and under.

For adults, there is yoga, workshops, body healing, visual art shows with paintings, and more.

I know of three festivals coming up in 2019 which are the Joshua Tree Music Festival May 16-19, the Guitar Fish Music Festival from July 25-28, and the Joshua Tree Music Festival from October 10-13.

All three of these events are annual, so even if you miss out on this year’s, they are sure to come again next year.

Not only are there musical festivals, but also other events put on by the park. To check out more, visit their website: https://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/jumbo-rocks-campground.htm

Price

The RV rates here vary depending upon the amp and electric hookups you need. For RVs with hookups, prices start at $35 a night and go up to $40 but that only includes two people in the price. For extra adults, it is $10 while for an extra child it is $5.

For RVs, without hookups, it is $25 a night. For more price descriptions and specifics, check out their website. You can also make reservations here: http://www.joshuatreelake.com/rvs

Another incredible option in the actual Joshua park is the Belle Campground. This is especially handy if you are visiting here and didn’t make a reservation beforehand. The Belle campground is smaller, with only 18 camping sites but needs no reservations. It is first come, first serve so if you make it in time, you don’t even need to worry about reserving it.

Amenities

Similar to the other parks within Joshua Tree Park, there are no little to no amenities that come with the site. It may not have all the amenities, but it offers an incredible experience being right under the stars in the heart of the national park.

Some things you should know before coming here is that there is no cell phone reception or internet, no laundry, no dump station, and no water. There are toilets and trash collection though! What more do you realy need when you’re camping?

Activities in the Area

Since this campground is located right inside Joshua Tree, be sure to go rock climbing, hiking, and of course star gazing. This is the perfect location to get a good look at the stars because you are away from any city lights.
